Motor Repair

AC Motor

We often repair AC motors as large as 150 kW. Read about the most common issues, how to spot them and our work on AC motors.

DC Motor

The motors team are used to repairing, refurbishing and rewinding new, old and obsolete DC motors. Learn more about what we do.

Servo Motor

Servo motors are used throughout by automated manufacturing, CNC machinery and robotics. We’re trusted by 1,000+ manufacturers.

Types of Electric Motors

AC Motors –

AC motors are highly flexible. They require low power to start, controlled acceleration, and adjustable speed and torque.

AC motors work directly with variable speed drives and programmable logic controllers. And as these automation parts become more complex, the maintenance of AC motors requires greater technical ability.

Synchronous Motors

Synchronous motors are used for machinery in which speed is required to remain constant. The rotor is synchronised with the frequency of the supply of current.

This type of electric motor is in the Kontroltek workshops quite often. They often begin to underperform as they age, and require maintenance to be brought back to a higher standard.

Induction motors

Induction motors can be split into two types: single-phase and three-phase. The former is used in small appliances whilst the latter has industrial uses.

Induction motors can be easily accommodated at our workshops, as we have three-phase power supplies available at each engineer’s workbench.

DC Motors –

DC motors cost less than AC motors and offer faster reaction to different operations. They’re fast at starting, accelerating, reversing and stopping.

DC motors are often used in automotive, lifts and machinery. DC motors are usually split into two types: brushed and brushless.

Brushed Motors

Brushed motors are the most traditional type of electric motor. They’re used in simple systems, such as consumer applications and basic industrial automation.

Brushed motors are used in presses, lifts and conveyors. We accommodate all sizes of motors, as long as they’re from commercial or industrial settings.

Brushless motors

Brushless motors are mechanically much simpler than brushed motors.

This type of motor offers speed and positional control. You may use this type of motor to run a pump, compressor, printing and high-speed industrial applications.

Servo Motors –

Servo motors are our bread and butter. Repairs, rewinds and refurbishments. Whether they’re AC, DC, brushed or brushless, we can help.

We’re often on-site, repairing servo motors that are being used in applications such as automated manufacturing, CNC machinery and robotics.

When Things Go South

Troubleshoot your motor

From magnets to windings, electric motors have countless components. An issue can arise anywhere at any time.

These are some of the most common faults that can occur:

Electrical overload

Low resistance

Overheating or smoke

Dirt & Grease

Moisture damage

Vibration damage

If your electric motor is showing signs of underperformance or complete failure, contact us immediately to book an engineer on-site or to collect the part for free.

Electric Motor Rewinding

Motor rewinding generally involves removing the original winding of the motor’s stator or armature and replacing them with new coils made from wire.

Your electric motor may need rewinding if it doesn’t turn on, emits excessive noise and vibration, shooting electric sparks or the carbon brushes are wearing out more frequently.

Read more about our motor rewinds.

Get Up and Running Again

Your electric motor plays a vital role in your plant or factory. They can be costly to replace, but are often easier to repair.

Kontroltek will collect and quote you for free. The Motor Department will disassemble, fault find, repair, balance, reassemble your motor before return within 10 days (terms apply).

Our specialists will also clean and test your electric motor in a setting the same or similar to your workplace.
